Lansing Mitten Mavens Roller Derby
Community Partners

Each quarter the Mavens partner with a community organization to cross-promote and donate a portion of fundraising and proceeds from bouts to support these local organizations.

January – March

Michigan Capital Region Big Brothers Big Sisters (

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission is to help children reach their potential through one-to-one relationships with mentors that have a measurable impact on youth. Their Vision is successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities for all. The Mitten Mavens and Capital City Wild Childs want to support youth programming in the Lansing area that helps kids make connections, build confidence, and reach their full potential, so we decided that Big Brothers Big Sisters organization would be one of our on-going priority partners. In addition to volunteering for their events and participating in Bowl for Kids’ Sake, we also provide free tickets to Big-Little matches at all our home bouts.

April – June

Capital Area Humane Society  (
The Capital Area Humane Society is passionate about animals, and so are the MItten Mavens and Capital City Wild Childs.   Their mission is to promote the humane treatment of companion animals through protection, placement, education and example. Their wide variety of programs and services exist to serve the animals and the people of the mid-Michigan community.  We collect food and other needs for the Capital Area Humane Society at our bouts and volunteer for the Fur Ball at the doggie spa!

July – September

The Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan  (
Ronald Mcdonal House
The Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan is a home-away-from-home for the families of seriously ill children who are hospitalized or receiving treatment at Lansing area hospitals and clinics.  RMHMM offers an inexpensive, comfortable and private place for families to sleep, eat and relax. Here families find a caring atmosphere where they can receive strength and encouragement from others who are also going through difficult times. We support the RMHMM because they directly help families in need in the Mid-Michigan area.

October – December
Women’s Center of Greater Lansing (

The Women’s Center of Greater Lansing is committed to providing valuable, innovative resources and services in an atmosphere that fosters mutual support, insight and growth for women of all backgrounds and ages as they strive to realize their own unique potential. We visualize a community where all women have the opportunity and ability to achieve their own unique potential. Another one of our long-standing partners, the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing does work we find critical to the Lansing community. Flat-track roller derby is a female-dominated sport, and we want to support other organizations like the Women’s Center that also have a direct impact on women through education, social activities, and networking. In turn, the Women’s Center has embraced the Mitten Mavens by including us in their 2012 Tribute to Women judging, promoting our events, and supporting our fundraisers.
